This order was signed by President Eisenhower who sent federal troops to keep peace during the integration. This order was signed because of the ruling in the Brown v. Topeka Board of Education case that stated segregation was unconstitutional. Significance: The signigicance of this source is that it was one of the first high schools to become desegregated while African Americans had already began to be elected to state boards and local offices, thanks to the Executive Order and the case ruling. The Fight for Equality
Summary: The fight for equality for women had been around for a long time. These women are portrayed here protesting for women's rights in the work force. Many women during this time were treated unequally due to their sex. Many of them were paid less that the men working the same exact job. There was and ongoing battle for women's equality. Many of the women during this time wanted things to stay the same and felt that these women were asking for too much; they already had women's suffrage.
Significance: This photograph shows how much women fought for their rights. There is still a large controversy today but, women's rights have come a long way so far. During the 50's and 60's civil rights was the topic and millions of Americans were fighting for their rights. This is why America is such a great country. Robert Ellingson |
