A Knight's Sacred Oath
http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/5047/ Summary: This source is about a labor union called The Knights of Labor, whose main goal was to improve working conditions. This source shows what the new members had to pledge to in order to be accepted into the organization. The oath is based on how labor should be used as a source of improvement rather than as a way to gain unfair advantages over others. Significance: This is significant because of how it shows how serious people were to fight for the better conditions in the working place, since they had to work to provide for their families and themselves. If they didn't fight against bad conditions, then many workers would continue getting injured, sick, or unsatisfied with how much they have to do for just little pay. Bianca M. |

But with great power comes great responsibility, he states the we have lots of power and we need to help other weaker countries with the similar problems that our fore fathers face. He wants the U.S. to help not only its people but to become a worldwide ally. Significance: This shows how commited a man Roosevelt was to creating a world of peace and efficiancy. This speach alone shows that he has what it takes to lead the U.S. through tough times. The understanding demonstrated in the address is awesome and greatly admired by many. -Robert Ellingson |
Negro BaseballLink:http://blog.negroleaguebaseball.com/negro_league_blog/2006/08/negro_league_or.html
Summary: During the late 1800s, early 1900, there were attempts to make an all-negro baseball league since the "color barrier" prevented them from joing any league with white people. In 1896 a group of black men got together in texas and schemed on making the new league. All that the idea needed was a well respected leader. They found that in Bud Fowler. Significance: If these men wouldnt have gotten together to form the first all negro league, Black men probably wouldnt have been allowed to play in the MLB as early as they did. Jackie Robinson would just have been just another baseball player, not the first African american to play in the majors. By: Tristan Kemblemyers |
