Summons to Duty
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Summons_to_Duty Summary: Homer Cummings states the the problems that the country is having comes from the Republicans. This is because the Republicans only want to see things their own way and they do not want to change things. This leads to him saying that under Republican rule there was destruction and disillusionment that helped destroy the country. Cummings is apart of the Democratic party and he believes that peace and justice is the next step for the country to take. He believes that we should treat all mankind with compassion and care. Cummings is also very nationalistic he feels that the country should be on top and every citizen should be supportive and proud of their country.
Significance: The significance of this article is that it shows what the Republican and Democratic plans were for the nation. It also shows the differences between the two parties and how they will probably never see eye to eye. Amber A. |
The Flapper GirlSummary: This web site shows various photographs of the flappers during this time period.
Significance: These photographs show how times were changing. There was a new age of fashion and self expression. Many of the Flapper photographs show a woman in a newer style out-fit instead of an older style. We can tell due to the fact that she is waring less clothing and allowing more skin to show. Although there was a change in clothing the flappers did not just dress differently, they stayed out at night and went to night clubs. These girls had fun and didn't care about what others thought many were much more open about sex and so forth. Another intresting style to look into is the swimming attire. If we compare their swimming suits from back then to what many ware now we will see a tremmendous difference. The most important significance is the idea that these young ladies started the neverending journey and idea of fashion. Robert Ellingson |
